Athletic Program Mission
To advance Boston Preparatory Charter Public School's overall mission to prepare 6th-12th grade students to succeed in college. To support the Boston Preparatory Charter Public School conviction that, "An environment structured around scholarship and personal growth cultivates students' virtues of courage, compassion, integrity, perseverance, and respect."
The Boston Preparatory Charter Public School Athletic Program will utilize student participation in athletics prepares all students for success in college and helping them to cultivate a lifelong commitment to virtue. At BPCPS, we believe that participation in a competitive athletic program supports and extends students' ability to strive for excellence both academically and ethically.
The BPCPS athletic program provides unique opportunities for students to understand how the virtues of courage, compassion, integrity, perseverance and respect are important for success outside of the classroom. Students will come to understand this through mission-driven coaching, individual self-effort and determination, being members of teams having a valuable team experiences, competing at high levels, and engaging in other experiences created by sports.
Varsity Athletic Program Goals
The BPCPS competitive athletic program is designed to achieve the following core goals:
- To support students' academic achievement and to prepare students for success in college.
- To support students as they cultivate their virtues of courage, compassion, integrity, perseverance, and respect through a variety of experiences achieved through athletic competition and training.
- To supplement and enhance school culture by representing scholarship and the virtues in all team and individual activities.
- To encourage positive behaviors and attitudes toward competition, team membership, and self-effort.
- To improve the physical conditioning of each student-athlete as a requisite for good health.
2009-2010 Varsity Soccer Season
The Phoenix finished the season strong, transforming their team from a 2-11-1 record last year, to finishing 10-5-1 this season. Congratulations to the first ever All-League players from BPCPS for their performance in soccer! Junior Javier Ballester, sophomore Shakieya Drake, and freshman Sadik Owolewa were named to the All-League team for the MCSAO Soccer Season. This marks the first time that BPCPS students have received a League award in any sport. With everyone returning to the field next season, the future of Phoenix soccer looks bright, and ready to burn!
